Push the mantel against the wall using the drawn lines. Check that your marks are straight using your level and then mark where the screws will be. Most mantels are placed about 60 above the floor.
Place the mantel shelf top-down on a tarp or rug. Ask a friend to trace along the top of the mantel then set the mantel aside. Have a helper support the mantel while you mark the location of the support rods on the back.
